Notes:

Just wanted to let everyone know we are thinking about you down here in Florida!!
Hang in there kid.. We love you!
Mandy and Del 3/9/04

VALERIUS FAMILY,
SOME OF YOU MAY KNOW ME AND SOME MAY NOT. I WORKED WITH ALLEN AT THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT AND KNEW HIM QUITE WELL AS THE NICKNAME GOES, "SMILEY". AT THE TIME, ALLEN LIVED IN DEKALB AND I LIVED IN NAPERVILLE. WHEN OUR AFTERNOON SHIFT WAS OVER, THE GEOGRAPHICAL CENTER BETWEEN BOTH OUR HOMES WAS THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT. HE AND I WOULD THEN "OCCUPY" THE BENCH JUST OUTSIDE THE EMPLOYEE ENTRANCE AFTER WORK AND TALK SOMETIMES FOR HOURS. IT WAS ALWAYS A JOKE AT THE END OF THE DAY AND WE WOULD KID EACH OTHER ABOUT HAVING NO WHERE TO GO AND WOULD END UP ON THE UNCOMFORTABLE WOODEN BENCH TALKING AND LAUGHING FOR HOURS. I'LL TELL YOU WHAT, IF IT WEREN'T FOR ALLEN, I WOULD HAVE HAD SOME VERY LONG DAYS. WE WOULD MEET FOR LUNCH AND SEND MESSAGES BACK AND FORTH ON THE IN-CAR COMPUTERS IN OUR SQUAD CARS. WHERE ALLEN WAS ON PATROL, I COULD BE FOUND AND THE OPPOSITE HELD TRUE. HE AND I ARE WHAT I CONSIDER
GOOD CLOSE FRIENDS AND NOTHING SHORT OF THAT. SOMEONE WHO WILL BE AROUND THROUGH THICK AND THIN AND LOVE YOU NO MATTER WHAT. ALLEN ALWAYS HAD A SMILE ON HIS FACE AND THAT IS THE ONE THING ETCHED INTO MY MEMORY ABOUT HIM. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER ALLEN AS THE KIND OF FRIEND MOST PEOPLE NEVER HAVE. HE TOUCHED MY LIFE AND SHOWED ME STRENGTH AND COURAGE THROUGH HIS BATTLE WITH CANCER THAT I WILL
NEVER FORGET. I JUST WANT YOU ALL TO KNOW THAT I LOVE ALLEN AND WILL NEVER FORGET HIM. HE WILL BE MY FRIEND FOREVER. LOVE, ALLEN'S ETERNAL FRIEND, TOM SHEHEE 3/15/04

Dear Denise  and  Allen, I  am  sarry  to  hear  that allen is  going to  diy  That  is a very  sad  thing. I am very  sarry.
allen you are  a very nice  person.  from kendyl 3/15/04

Denise- I am a friend of Tom Shehee's.  He talked to me about Allen back when he was first diagnosed and he has been keeping me informed on how the two of you are doing since then.  I just wanted to drop a quick note to let you know that I am so, so sorry for what you are going through.  From everything that Tom has told me and from looking through this website, Allen seems like an extraordinary person. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you, Allen, your son and both of your families.  Susie Vela 3/15/04

To the Valerius Family: Please accept my condolences on the passing of Allen.  I've know Larry for over a year now (through work) and any time he talked about his brother, you could tell that he really loved him.  I never knew Allen but from the accounts that Larry gave, he was a hell of a guy.  He will surely be missed. Addam Kahl 3/16/04

What a ray of sunshine he "was".  Always showing up for work or play with a smile.  He was a pleasure to be around because his beautiful energy just rubbed right off him onto you.  I will truly miss him but I hold on to the fact that we will meet again. "Goodbye" for now Allen. Denise, my prayer for you is that you be given
the strength to get you though.... Tom Kranz 3/18/04

Our thoughts & prayers are with the entire Valerius family. We can only trust that Jesus is showing Allen his many rewards in heaven. Allen will live in your hearts for eternity. Make sure to let his nieces & nephews know just how special a person he was. The Johnson, Anderson & Gannon  Families 3/22/04

What an incredible website in Al's honor.  Denise, we are so sorry we could not get back for Al's services but I know Pat really treasured the time he spent with Al & you while in Illinois for that brief visit a few weeks back.  We were also so very grateful you both could attend our wedding in September - that made it a very special moment for us... especially for Pat.  Both of us marveled at Al's amazing, always "can-do" attitude.
Though I barely know you, you are incredibly strong and he was so lucky to have you by his side the entire way through what I can only imagine was an extremely difficult time.
As that time passes, I hope you are able to find some comfort & peace in knowing Allen is in a better place now.
Very sincerely, Pat & Jennifer Williams.  Phoenix, AZ 3/26/04

Dear Denise, I do not know you, but I can truly relate to your grief.  I, too, have lost loved ones unexpectedly and felt shattered in the aftermath.  All I can say is that somewhere, somehow, there is a Master Plan, and if it helps you at all, try to remember that you had and loved Allen.  Some women never know anything like that at all. My prayers have been with you since I first heard about this. Peace will come eventually, I assure you. Beth 3/30/04

My deepest sympathy to you and your son and family. I lost my husband to a undetected heart condition in August of 2000, he was 33 yrs old. Life is very hard at first but I believe they guide us from beyond to help us get through our toughest days and try to comfort us the best ways they can. Please take care of yourself and your son, and you are in my prayers daily. Sincerely, Mary Bishop 3/31/04

I reached your site via an article in the Beacon News. I used to live in Aurora, and still read the Beacon online.
My heart goes out to you and your families. My Aunt Osie had this same type of cancer and passed away a few years ago. Her story was so like Allen's. I sat here and cried, knowing what you all went through and will still go through.
God Bless you and think on the happy times and the sweet times with Allen. Sue Reid Normal, IL 3/31/04

God Bless you in your time of grief. Just know how fortunate you are to have your own guardian angel. The time you had on earth was short but precious. And memories last a lifetime. Take care. Hugs, Elin Bender 4/1/04

Denise, I am glad we met. I am glad to help. I hope all we do for you gives you some peace of mind, and some comfort to know that we are here for you. We are your brothers and sisters, not by blood, but by chance. Several years ago, my father-then 70 something- was diagnosed with cancer. They took 2/3 of his stomach. He is now 80. I am glad to help with the (Lowlyfz) Benefit, I felt I owed someone something for my father's survival. Keep the faith!
We love you kiddo!   Benman LowlyfzMC 6/10/04

Hi Denise, I hope you were as inspired by the outpouring of love, caring, and generosity at the World's Shortest Poker Run as I was. Crash, Ben and all who worked so hard really deserve all of the credit for putting together a great benefit and unforgettable tribute to Allen. I'm proud that it happened in Plano. And yes, bikers are suckers for a
good cause. I remain at your service.  Bill Roberts, Mayor of the City of Plano 6/30/04
